Unfortunately the Squishy Seventeen has been cancelled for 2012. We are starting plans for summer 2013 now and the Vancouver Ski Champs will be going ahead as planned. Stay tuned for more information on both! Thanks for the support!

Attn: Race Postponed

Unfortunately our race must be postponed until August due to a change in our insurance. Please stay tuned for a date. Fortunately, this gives us time to gather more prizes and finish up some organizing (online registration coming soon!). Get in touch if you have any questions.

Race Details

**Updated July 12th**

Attention All Squishy Seventeen Runners:

The following list contains important details and rules for the Squishy Seventeen Run. Please look them over before coming on July 15th!

  • The Squishy Seventeen is a fundraiser for the UBC Nordic Ski Team. To participate in the fundraiser, you must make a donation ($25). In return you will receive a number which will be included in the draw for prizes after the run.
  • You may elect to join us for our unsanctioned trail run (kind of like a race but you have to take care of your self) during which you can wear the number given in return for the donation. These numbers will be recorded in a similar manner to the results of a race.
  • Registration opens at 7:30am on the day of the event and closes 15 min before the run starts (Start at 8:30am).
  • If you choose to participate in the run please:
    • Bring at least 1L water. No water will be available on the course (except streams of which there are several) so you are responsible for carrying a hydration system.
    • A GU or GU Chomp is also a good idea but not required.
    • Print and carry the provided course map. You are responsible for not getting lost and must be capable of simple navigation on course. (iPhone users should download the trailmapp.com: Squamish App which allows you to follow the course with GPS - Support our Sponsors!)
    • Run with a partner. As with any other trail run you should not run alone. Having a partner reduces the likelihood of an emergency if you are injured.
    • One person in your group must have a cell phone. You are responsible for finding your way around the course. You may also carry an emergency beacon.
    • It is recommended you carry a GPS device with the course loaded and track your run so you can retrace your steps if needed.
  • The course will be marked. Watch for pink flagging tape on the first half of the course before crossing Garibaldi Park Road. The second half of the course is marked with Orange tape. The course was well marked and generally you should not go more than two minutes without seeing tape. Some long sections with no junctions will be sparsely marked. It is also possible that flags may blow away or be removed by other trial users so do not depend solely on the flags. You must have a trail map and someone in your group must have a cell phone.
  • There will be one aid station on the course staffed by a volunteer. At this point you may opt to take a cut-off to the short course. Please inform the volunteer at the finish which course you completed (long or short).
  • Two volunteers will lead groups, one will be fast paced and one will go as fast as the slowest racer. These volunteers will be familiar with the course, if you choose to go ahead or distance yourself from the volunteer groups you must be able to navigate the course.
  • Be prepared for all weather conditions including extreme heat or severe rain. The event will not be postponed or cancelled due to weather. Adjust your hydration and clothing systems according to the conditions. Trail conditions include short pavement sections, gravel road, single track trails with mud, hidden rocks, puddles, and steep descents. Adjust your speed accordingly for any trail hazards. Mountain bike log bridges do exist on the trail and can be slippery - one runner at a time may be necessary on the more rickety bridges.
Please direct any questions to racedirector@vancouverskichamps.com or call 604-992-2535. A final update will be posted exactly 24 hours prior to the event start. Good Luck!
